Over 300 representatives from media, academia, and enterprises across 26 countries gathered in Urumqi, the capital of northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, for the 2025 Media Cooperation Forum of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Countries.
The event served as a platform to boost cross-border media collaboration among SCO member states, observer countries, and dialogue partners. Key initiatives were unveiled, including the release of a public opinion survey highlighting regional perspectives on cooperation.
Delegates launched a digital storytelling initiative aimed at leveraging online platforms to share compelling narratives. In addition, a youth cultural exchange program was introduced to deepen grassroots connections among young people in the region.
Discussions emphasized the importance of factual and balanced journalism in fostering mutual understanding and regional stability. Participants pledged to prioritize coverage of tangible outcomes such as infrastructure projects and technological partnerships.
