Journalists from 14 Central and Eastern European countries (CEEC) were captivated by the vibrant fusion of cultures in Ningbo’s historic Lao Waitan area. As part of a special tour highlighting China-CEEC exchanges, the reporters explored the district known for its unique blend of European-inspired architecture and modern Chinese urban development.
Correspondents from prominent media outlets, including Slovenia’s Delo, Croatia’s Total Croatia News, and Hungary’s Magyar Hirlap, strolled along the bustling waterfront, taking in the dazzling night views. The Lao Waitan, or “Old Bund,” once served as a significant port during the late 19th and early 20th centuries and now stands as a symbol of cultural integration and historical preservation.
“It’s fascinating to see how Ningbo has preserved the historical European buildings while seamlessly integrating them into the modern cityscape,” remarked a journalist from Total Croatia News. “The atmosphere here is both nostalgic and dynamic.”
The tour aimed to strengthen cultural ties and mutual understanding between China and the CEEC. Reporter Liu Mohan documented the journalists’ experiences, highlighting their appreciation for Ningbo’s efforts in fostering international connections through cultural heritage.
The event not only showcased Ningbo’s rich history but also underscored the importance of global cooperation and exchange. For many of the visiting journalists, the Lao Waitan area embodied the harmonious blend of East and West, leaving a lasting impression of China’s cultural diversity.
