Thrills and Challenges in Second Stage of Taklimakan Rally

The Taklimakan Rally roared into its second special stage on Thursday, bringing high-octane excitement to Aksu Prefecture in northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. As the first major desert section of this year’s race, competitors pushed the limits of endurance and skill in a quest for victory.

The 115-kilometer route in Alar, newly added to the rally this year, presented a formidable challenge. With its soft dunes, unpredictable terrain, and complex topography, the course tested not only the racers’ vehicle control but also their navigation prowess.

In an inspiring display of determination, Czech rider Martin Michek of the Hoto Factory Racing Team clinched first place in the motorcycle division for the second consecutive day, clocking in at 2 hours, 39 minutes, and 51 seconds. Battling a fever and headache, Michek’s performance thrilled fans and set a high bar for his competitors.

Meanwhile, in the car category, driver Zhang Biaobiao and navigator Wang Xiaofeng of the Gansu TV Chiyue Sports Racing Team blazed through the course in 2 hours, 31 minutes, and 7 seconds, securing the fastest time of the day. Four-time champion Han Wei, alongside co-driver Ma Li, opted for a steady approach, finishing the stage in 2 hours, 36 minutes, and 22 seconds.

The rally is set to intensify as Friday’s third special stage features a grueling 335-kilometer route in Keping, promising even greater challenges for the racers as they navigate the demanding desert landscape.
