Chinese President Xi Jinping has extended his heartfelt condolences over the passing of former Vietnamese President Tran Duc Luong. In a message sent on Saturday, Xi expressed profound sympathy to Tran Duc Luong’s family and the people of Vietnam.
Xi, who is also the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, hailed Tran Duc Luong as an outstanding leader who made significant contributions to Vietnam’s development and its Doi Moi (renewal) reforms. He recognized Tran’s efforts in strengthening the ties between China and Vietnam, noting that he was an old friend of the Chinese people.
“Comrade Tran Duc Luong played a pivotal role in promoting friendship and cooperation between our two countries,” Xi said in his message. “His legacy will continue to inspire the people of Vietnam and the region.”
President Xi expressed confidence that under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the Vietnamese people will turn their grief into strength and achieve new accomplishments in their journey of national development.
Tran Duc Luong served as the President of Vietnam from 1997 to 2006, overseeing a period of significant economic reform and international integration. His passing marks the loss of a respected statesman who devoted his life to the progress of his country.
