China’s C919 Takes Off: First Shanghai-Xiamen Flight Completed

China’s homegrown C919 passenger jet marked a historic moment as it completed its inaugural flight from Shanghai to Xiamen on May 25. Touching down at Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport at 9:19 a.m., Flight MU5247 was greeted with a water salute, a prestigious aviation tradition celebrating the C919’s maiden voyage to Xiamen.

The aircraft, carrying 148 passengers, represents China’s ambitious step into the commercial aviation market, challenging industry giants. Starting May 25, the C919 will operate regularly on the Shanghai-Xiamen express route, offering one daily round-trip flight.

The outbound Flight MU5247 departs Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport at 7:50 a.m., arriving in Xiamen at 9:55 a.m. The return Flight MU5248 leaves Xiamen at 10:55 a.m. and lands back in Shanghai at 12:55 p.m. This schedule is tailored for business travelers needing same-day round trips, significantly enhancing travel efficiency between the two bustling cities.

The introduction of the C919 into commercial service not only showcases China’s advancements in aviation technology but also promises to boost economic ties and accessibility in the region.
