China and Malaysia Pledge New ‘Golden 50 Years’ of Cooperation

In a move to strengthen ties, Chinese Premier Li Qiang and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim have vowed to usher in a new “Golden 50 Years” of partnership between their countries. Meeting in Kuala Lumpur, the leaders emphasized mutual respect, trust, and benefit as the foundation for future collaboration.

Premier Li highlighted the potential to expand cooperation in cutting-edge fields like the digital economy, green technology, and artificial intelligence. “China is ready to work with Malaysia to promote integrated development of production and supply chains,” he stated.

The two nations plan to advance key projects such as the “Two Countries, Two Parks” initiative and the East Coast Rail Link, aiming to boost economic growth and connectivity. Li also stressed the importance of people-to-people exchanges, expressing willingness to implement a mutual visa exemption agreement. “Strengthening the emotional bonds between our peoples is essential for our shared future,” he added.

Addressing global challenges, Li noted the rise of unilateralism and protectionism. He called for enhanced coordination among China, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to uphold open regionalism and true multilateralism. The upcoming ASEAN-China-GCC Summit was highlighted as a significant opportunity for collaboration.

Prime Minister Anwar echoed these sentiments, affirming Malaysia’s commitment to work closely with China. “China is our good neighbor and trusted partner,” he remarked. Anwar expressed eagerness to expand cooperation in areas like new energy, finance, natural resources, and artificial intelligence.

He also voiced support for China’s accession to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership, underscoring Malaysia’s dedication to multilateralism. “We look forward to ensuring that the inaugural ASEAN-China-GCC Summit yields fruitful outcomes,” Anwar stated.

The meeting signals a promising future for China-Malaysia relations, with both nations set to collaborate on various fronts to bring about mutual prosperity.
