Chinese Premier Li Qiang touched down in Kuala Lumpur on Monday to participate in the inaugural ASEAN-GCC-China Summit. This landmark gathering, proposed by Malaysia—the current chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)—marks a significant step in fostering collaboration between Southeast Asia, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), and China.
The Gulf Cooperation Council consists of six Middle Eastern countries: Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. The summit aims to enhance economic ties, discuss regional security, and explore avenues for cooperation among the participating nations and regions. Premier Li’s presence underscores China’s commitment to strengthening relationships within the region.
Before arriving in Malaysia, Li Qiang visited Indonesia, where he engaged in discussions with Indonesian leaders on bilateral trade and investment opportunities.
