Chinese President Xi Jinping has sent a heartfelt congratulatory letter to Fudan University on the occasion of its 120th founding anniversary.
In his letter, President Xi praised the university for its remarkable contributions over the past century and encouraged it to continue nurturing talent and innovation.
Founded in 1905 in Shanghai, Fudan University has grown into a leading comprehensive research institution in the Chinese mainland. President Xi, who is also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, acknowledged the university’s tradition of patriotism and academic excellence.
“Over the past 120 years, Fudan University has kept pace with the times, developed a glorious tradition of patriotism and a fine academic ethos, nurtured numerous outstanding talents, produced many original achievements, and played a positive role in China’s development as well as in the progress of the Chinese nation,” President Xi wrote.
He expressed hope that Fudan University will remain committed to using the Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era to cultivate talent. President Xi emphasized the importance of deepening education and scientific research reforms, promoting independent technological innovation, and driving advancements in philosophy and social sciences.
He urged the university to enhance its ability to serve major national strategies and contribute to regional economic and social development. “By doing so, Fudan University will make consistent contributions to building China into a strong country and rejuvenating the Chinese nation on all fronts through Chinese modernization,” he stated.
As Fudan University embarks on its next chapter, it stands as a symbol of academic excellence and innovation, inspiring students and scholars both in the Chinese mainland and around the world.
