In a groundbreaking event, the world’s first humanoid robot fighting competition took place on Sunday in Hangzhou, east China’s Zhejiang Province. “AI Strategist,” operated by Lu Xin, emerged as the champion after a series of intense battles that kept spectators on the edge of their seats.
Hosted by the China Media Group (CMG), the World Robot Contest: Mech Combat Arena Competition kicked off with a thrilling performance match, showcasing the advanced capabilities of humanoid robots. The combat matches that followed featured robots duking it out over three rounds, each lasting two minutes. Points were awarded for effective strikes: one point for arm hits, three points for leg knocks, with any contact to the head or torso considered valid. A knockdown resulted in a five-point penalty, and any robot failing to stand within eight seconds faced a ten-point penalty and immediate disqualification.
In the first match, “AI Strategist” faced off against “Silk Artisan,” operated by Jiao Tianqi. “Silk Artisan” dominated the initial round with swift leg strikes and powerful side kicks. The second round saw both robots engaging fiercely with knee strikes. However, in the decisive third round, “AI Strategist” delivered a critical knee blow that knocked down its opponent, clinching the victory.
The second match featured “Armored Mulan,” operated by Chen Liangyu, against “Energy Guardian,” piloted by Hu Yunqian. “Energy Guardian” secured an early knockdown in the first round. After a tense stalemate in the second, “Armored Mulan” suffered an accidental fall at the start of the third round, allowing “Energy Guardian” to claim the win with consistent performance.
The final showdown between “AI Strategist” and “Energy Guardian” was nothing short of electrifying. Demonstrating superior tactics and agility, “AI Strategist” achieved knockouts in all three rounds, earning the coveted championship title.
The event was live-streamed globally, featuring expert commentary and discussions that delved into the principles of motion control and real-time decision-making in robotic combat. Viewers worldwide tuned in to witness this fusion of technology and sport.
The fighting competition is part of the CMG World Robot Competition Series, which will also include robot football and basketball games in the future. The series aims to spotlight regional robotics industries and promote the integration of science, culture, and tourism. Designed to be both educational and entertaining, it showcases cutting-edge robot technology in a captivating and accessible format.
