China has kicked off a new wave of environmental inspections, marking the fourth phase of the third round under its central environmental protection initiative. This is the first time inspections are being conducted since new regulations on ecological and environmental protection came into effect.
Inspection teams will be dispatched to five provincial-level regions: Shanxi, Inner Mongolia, Shandong, Shaanxi, and Ningxia. These teams will carry out both regional inspections and coordinated examinations of the Yellow River Basin, a crucial ecological zone.
In addition to the regional focus, three major centrally-administered state-owned companies will undergo scrutiny: China Huaneng Group Co., Ltd., China Datang Corporation Ltd., and State Power Investment Corporation Limited. These companies play significant roles in China’s energy sector, and their environmental practices are key to the nation’s ecological goals.
The inspections will last about one month. During this period, each team will establish dedicated telephone hotlines and postal mailboxes, encouraging the public to submit reports and complaints about any environmental protection issues related to the inspected entities.
This initiative signals China’s intensified efforts to address environmental concerns and enforce stricter regulations. By involving both regional authorities and major corporations, the country aims to promote sustainable practices and protect vital ecosystems like the Yellow River Basin.
The Yellow River runs between Shaanxi’s Jiaxian County and Shanxi’s Linxian County, serving as a vital water source and ecological asset for the surrounding regions.
