Chinese Premier Calls for Upholding Multilateral Trading System

Chinese Premier Urges Unity to Strengthen Global Trade

Chinese Premier Li Qiang has called for global unity to uphold the multilateral trading system, emphasizing the World Trade Organization’s central role. Speaking at the ASEAN-China-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Economic Forum 2025, Premier Li highlighted the need for collaboration to foster a stable and orderly international market.

“The successful ASEAN-China-GCC Summit has opened a new chapter in our trilateral cooperation,” Li stated. He underscored the importance of working together to address global challenges, suggesting that solidarity can create long-term strategic opportunities and promote sustained development.

In light of rising protectionism and unilateralism, Li urged China, ASEAN, and GCC countries to commit to greater openness and remove trade barriers. He noted the deep-rooted friendship among these regions, expressing confidence that their cooperation will lead to new achievements and a brighter future.

Premier Li also spoke about China’s economic resilience, noting continuous recovery and improvement since the beginning of the year. He mentioned China’s proactive macroeconomic policies, focusing on expanding domestic demand and enhancing economic driving forces. “Despite facing various challenges, we have the confidence to keep the ‘big ship’ of the Chinese economy sailing steadily,” he said.

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim echoed Li’s sentiments at the forum’s opening ceremony. He highlighted the strong message of unity sent by the inaugural ASEAN-China-GCC Summit. Anwar emphasized China’s significant role in promoting economic development, maintaining peace, and upholding international fairness.

“ASEAN is committed to deepening partnerships with China and the GCC,” Anwar said. “Through mutually beneficial cooperation in economy, trade, and investment, we aim to contribute to regional and global prosperity and stability.”
