The 2025 China (Hainan) Dragon Boat Invitational and the 3rd Wanning Hele Jianghu Dragon Boat Race are set to take place this Saturday at Gangbei Harbor in Hele Town, Wanning City, in the Chinese mainland’s southern Hainan Province. As the day coincides with this year’s Dragon Boat Festival, excitement is building for a vibrant celebration of culture and sport.
Twelve dragon boat teams from across Hainan are gearing up to compete, with preparations now in full swing. The teams will paddle their intricately decorated boats through the waters of Gangbei Harbor, showcasing strength, teamwork, and traditional craftsmanship.
Gangbei Harbor in Hele Town is the heart of Wanning’s rich dragon boat heritage. In 2015, the Chinese Dragon Boat Association officially designated Hele Town as the “Dragon Boat Town of China.” Over the years, the town has transformed the ancestral folk tradition of dragon boat racing into a premier sporting event and a cultural symbol, attracting visitors and competitors from across the region.
