Chengdu Hosts Vibrant International Intangible Heritage Festival

The city of Chengdu in southwest China’s Sichuan Province has come alive as the 9th International Intangible Cultural Heritage Festival kicked off on May 28 at the Chengdu International Intangible Cultural Heritage Expo Park. Running until June 3, the festival coincides with International Children’s Day and the Dragon Boat Festival, offering a colorful celebration of global cultures.

The festival features three major sections: International Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) Brand IP Licensing, Global Cuisine, and Chinese Traditional Medicine Promotion. These sections showcase how China is innovatively integrating intangible cultural heritage into modern life, encouraging young people to engage in preserving these traditions, and supporting economic development driven by culture.

Over 600 ICH projects from more than 60 countries and regions are on display, highlighting a rich tapestry of global traditions. More than 400 representative ICH practitioners from across China have gathered in Chengdu to showcase their craftsmanship, demonstrate traditional skills, and promote cultural products.

Visitors can immerse themselves in diverse cultural experiences, from tasting international delicacies to learning about traditional Chinese medicine practices. The festival aims to foster an appreciation for intangible cultural heritage among the youth, inspiring a new generation to preserve and carry forward these valuable traditions.

As Chengdu celebrates this vibrant festival, it stands as a testament to the power of culture in bringing people together and enriching modern life with the wisdom of the past.
