More than 13 million students across the Chinese mainland are gearing up for this year’s national college entrance exam, known as the gaokao, starting on June 7. The Ministry of Education announced on Wednesday that 13.35 million candidates will participate in the exam, marking a slight decrease from last year’s record 13.42 million.
Local authorities are working diligently to ensure the smooth organization of the examination, providing comprehensive services to support the candidates. Measures include enhanced transportation, accommodation, hygiene, and noise control to create an optimal environment for test-takers.
To uphold the integrity of the gaokao, nationwide special operations have been launched to combat exam-related criminal activities. Strict security checks will be enforced at exam sites, focusing on prohibited items such as mobile phones, smart watches, bands, and glasses, aiming to prevent all forms of cheating.
Special considerations have been made for disadvantaged groups. Braille test papers have been prepared for 16 blind candidates, and reasonable accommodations are being provided for over 14,000 examinees with disabilities. Additionally, targeted psychological guidance is available to students to ensure they receive the necessary support.
