Orders from U.S. purchasers have surged following a recent economic and trade meeting in Geneva that eased trade tensions between China and the United States, according to a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson on Wednesday.
“This fully reflects the huge demand from each of the two countries,” spokesperson Mao Ning said during a regular news briefing. She noted that shipping services have been running at full capacity to accommodate the increased demand.
Mao’s remarks came after comments by Michael Hart, president of the American Chamber of Commerce in China, at the Global Trade and Investment Promotion Summit 2025 in Beijing last week. Hart emphasized that China is both an important commodity market and supplier for the United States.
“The essence of China-U.S. economic and trade relations is mutually beneficial and win-win,” Mao stated, adding that cooperation between the two largest economies has brought tangible benefits to enterprises and consumers in both countries.
She stressed that protectionism leads nowhere and welcomed global enterprises, including U.S. firms, to operate and develop in China. “We encourage companies to deepen cooperation with China and share opportunities arising from this cooperation,” Mao said.
