China has voiced strong opposition to the United States’ recent decision to revoke visas for certain Chinese students. On Thursday, Mao Ning, a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, addressed the issue during a regular press conference.
Mao criticized the U.S. action as politically motivated and discriminatory, stating that it undermines the principles of freedom and openness that the U.S. claims to uphold. “Such political and discriminatory practices by the U.S. expose the lie of the so-called freedom and openness that it has always boasted of, and will only further damage the U.S.’s own international image and credibility,” she remarked.
The spokesperson emphasized that the U.S. is using ideology and national security as a pretext for its decision, which seriously harms the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese students. She noted that this move disrupts normal people-to-people and educational exchanges between China and the United States.
“We firmly oppose this and have made serious representations to the U.S. side,” Mao added, signaling China’s intent to address the matter through diplomatic channels.
