China has extended an invitation to member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) to collaborate on establishing an Artificial Intelligence (AI) application center. The proposal was unveiled on Thursday at the 2025 China-SCO AI Cooperation Forum held in Tianjin Municipality, north China.
The “China-SCO Member States AI Application Cooperation Center Construction Plan” outlines key objectives, including nurturing talent, strengthening industrial partnerships, and enhancing cooperation in open-source services.
With the theme “Intelligence Converges in China, Wisdom Benefits SCO,” the forum aims to boost practical cooperation in AI development and governance among SCO member nations.
Huang Ru, an official from China’s National Development and Reform Commission, highlighted at the forum that accelerating cooperation in AI technologies and applications could invigorate the SCO’s economic and social development. He emphasized that such collaboration would promote inclusive global growth and help bridge the global digital divide.
China expressed readiness to work with other SCO member states to uphold the “Shanghai Spirit” and enhance joint efforts to ensure the beneficial, secure, and equitable development of AI, according to Huang.
