China’s Railways See Record Travel Surge as Dragon Boat Festival Begins

China’s railway network is experiencing a massive surge in passenger trips as the Dragon Boat Festival holiday kicks off. On Saturday, the first day of the holiday, the network is expected to handle a staggering 17.8 million passenger trips, according to China State Railway Group Co., Ltd.

To accommodate the increased demand, an additional 1,029 trains have been scheduled for Saturday alone. This follows a busy Friday where 15.78 million passengers were transported smoothly and safely across the country.

Top travel destinations during this festive period include Beijing, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Chengdu, Hangzhou, Nanjing, and Zhengzhou. Railway authorities are not only boosting transport capacity but also enhancing station services and introducing cultural activities to enrich the passenger experience.

The five-day travel rush surrounding the Dragon Boat Festival is expected to see approximately 80.5 million passenger trips on China’s railways. The festival, known for its colorful boat races and traditional rice dumplings, is one of the most significant holidays in China, bringing families together and attracting tourists from around the world.

This surge in travel reflects the strong recovery and growth in domestic tourism and transportation sectors. As more people choose to explore and connect, the railway network continues to play a vital role in facilitating mobility across the nation.
