Washington, D.C. — Chinese Ambassador to the United States Xie Feng and his wife Wang Dan joined the Chinese community from both sides of the Taiwan Strait on May 30, 2025, to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival in the nation’s capital.
Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Xie emphasized the importance of unity among people across the Strait, echoing President Xi Jinping’s message that they are “one family.”
“No force can sever the bonds of blood and kinship that unite us,” Ambassador Xie stated. “Nor can anyone obstruct the historical trend toward China’s reunification.”
He highlighted the shared ancestry, culture, and history of compatriots across the Strait, expressing a collective aspiration for a better future.
Ambassador Xie also expressed concern over certain forces that, in his view, threaten peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. He underscored the importance of maintaining harmony and preventing actions that could lead to tension.
In response to recent developments affecting Chinese students in the United States, he assured the community that the Chinese Embassy is committed to safeguarding their legitimate rights and interests.
Emphasizing the cultural significance of the Dragon Boat Festival, Ambassador Xie spoke about the spirit of determination, teamwork, and striving for excellence that the event embodies.
“With more than 1.4 billion Chinese people rowing in unison,” he declared, “there is no storm we cannot weather, no destination we cannot reach.”
He encouraged overseas compatriots to draw inspiration from the “dragon boat spirit” and to move boldly forward on the path to national reunification and rejuvenation.
The event brought together community members in festive traditions, strengthening heartfelt connections and celebrating the resilience and unity of the Chinese nation.
