Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian on Tuesday dismissed U.S. accusations that China is violating the consensus reached during recent economic and trade talks in Geneva. Speaking at a regular press briefing, Lin urged the United States to stop spreading disinformation and to respect the agreements made.
“China has acted responsibly, taking the consensus reached in the Geneva talks seriously and implementing it rigorously,” Lin stated. He emphasized that China’s commitment to the agreed-upon terms remains steadfast.
Lin criticized the United States for undermining the consensus by introducing a series of restrictive measures against China. These measures include issuing guidance on artificial intelligence (AI) chip export controls, halting sales of chip design software to China, and announcing the revocation of visas for Chinese students.
“The U.S. moves have harmed China’s legitimate rights and interests,” Lin said. “China firmly opposes these actions and has lodged stern representations.”
He stressed that pressure and coercion are not effective strategies for dealing with China. Lin called on the United States to respect the facts, stop spreading disinformation, correct its mistakes, and take concrete actions to uphold the consensus reached during the Geneva talks.
