China Hosts Second Belt and Road Science Conference in Chengdu

China is set to host the Second Belt and Road Conference on Science and Technology Exchange from June 10 to 12 in Chengdu, southwest China’s Sichuan Province. The event will welcome representatives from over 100 countries and international organizations, focusing on strengthening global cooperation in science and innovation under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

Delegates will engage in various activities centered around themes such as artificial intelligence, traditional Chinese medicine, technology-driven poverty reduction, international mega-science projects, and aligning science policies among BRI participating countries.

“Science and technology cooperation is a vital component of Belt and Road collaboration,” said Chen Jiachang, China’s vice minister of science and technology. “We are committed to deepening partnerships and jointly building an open and innovative global environment.”

The conference is organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Chinese Academy of Engineering. It will feature the signing of bilateral intergovernmental science cooperation agreements, the launch of new programs for BRI science collaboration, and the initiation of international mega-science projects led by Chinese scientists.

“We want science and innovation to better serve economic and social development across all BRI countries,” Chen added. “Together, we aim to build a more inclusive, open, and dynamic global science ecosystem.”
