Chinese Mainland Police Pursue 20 Cyberattack Suspects Linked to Taiwan Authorities

Police in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou have placed 20 suspects on a wanted list, accusing them of participating in cyberattacks orchestrated by an organization under Taiwan authorities. The Guangzhou Tianhe District Public Security Bureau announced the list on Thursday, offering rewards of 10,000 yuan (approximately $1,390) for information leading to each suspect’s arrest.

The notice detailed cyberattacks allegedly carried out by Taiwan’s “Information, Communications and Electronic Force Command (ICEFCOM)”. According to the police, ICEFCOM directed and executed illegal cyber activities and is suspected of multiple criminal offenses.

In a related development, a joint research report by three cybersecurity organizations, led by the National Computer Virus Emergency Response Center, exposed the history, structure, personnel, locations, missions, and typical cyberattacks attributed to ICEFCOM.

The authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward, emphasizing the importance of cybersecurity and cooperation in combating cybercrime.
