The 9th China-South Asia Expo is set to take place from June 19 to 24 in Kunming, the capital of southwest China’s Yunnan Province. This significant event was announced on Friday by Vice Minister of Commerce Yan Dong during a press conference.
Co-hosted by the Ministry of Commerce and the Yunnan provincial government, the expo is poised to be one of the most important platforms for economic and trade exchanges between China and South Asian nations this year.
“Trade between China and South Asian countries approached $200 billion in 2023, doubling over the past decade with an average annual growth rate of 6.3 percent,” Yan Dong stated. He highlighted that investment cooperation has also yielded fruitful results, with flagship projects serving as major drivers of regional growth.
Looking ahead, China plans to work closely with South Asian nations to align development strategies and expand cooperation in emerging fields such as the digital economy, low-carbon development, and smart manufacturing. “We aim to support the region’s industrialization, broaden two-way opening up, and enhance trade and investment facilitation,” Yan added.
Li Chaowei, director of the Yunnan Provincial Department of Commerce, shared that this year’s expo will be more international, professional, and market-oriented. “Over 1,400 enterprises from 54 countries and regions have confirmed their participation,” Li said.
The expo will feature 11 themed halls, highlighting key sectors including advanced manufacturing, clean energy, and modern agriculture. Nearly 1,000 professional buyers are expected to attend, offering ample opportunities for business networking and collaboration.
The China-South Asia Expo serves as a crucial bridge connecting China with its neighboring countries, fostering regional cooperation and development. With the upcoming event, stakeholders are optimistic about deepening ties and achieving mutual growth.
