China has pledged to collaborate with nations worldwide to build a cleaner, more sustainable future, according to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian on Thursday.
Speaking at a regular press briefing ahead of World Environment Day on June 5, Lin emphasized China’s commitment to green development and ecological conservation. “China has always been a staunch activist in promoting green development,” Lin stated.
Over the past two decades, since introducing the concept that “lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets,” China has made significant strides in ecological governance. The country has effectively balanced development and environmental protection, becoming one of the fastest in reducing energy intensity and improving air quality.
China contributes a quarter of the world’s new forest areas, has built the world’s largest and fastest-growing renewable energy system, and established the most extensive and complete new energy industrial chain globally.
Lin highlighted China’s role as a key contributor to the global green transformation. “China has engaged in green energy project cooperation with over 100 countries and regions,” Lin said. The nation has actively facilitated the free flow of quality green technologies and products, supplying more than 80 percent of global photovoltaic components and 70 percent of the world’s wind power equipment.
These efforts have led to a substantial reduction in the global costs of wind and photovoltaic power generation projects, making clean energy more accessible and affordable, especially for developing countries.
“China is willing to continue acting responsibly as an enabler,” Lin concluded, “and work with all parties to fulfill our common but differentiated responsibilities, promoting the building of a clean, beautiful, and sustainable world.”
