An overwhelming 93.3% of global respondents believe that dialogue is the key to resolving trade disputes between China and the United States, according to a recent survey conducted by CGTN. The poll reflects a strong global desire for cooperation between the two economic giants amid ongoing tensions.
The survey, which gathered opinions from over 5,600 participants within 12 hours across CGTN’s English, Spanish, French, Arabic, and Russian platforms, highlights the international community’s support for diplomatic engagement. A significant 74.7% of respondents felt that recent phone talks between the heads of state of China and the U.S. sent a positive signal toward easing trade disputes and promoting a return to stable relations.
In May, lead officials from both countries held a crucial economic and trade meeting in Geneva at the suggestion of the U.S. side. This marked an important step forward in addressing relevant issues through dialogue and consultation, a move welcomed by people in both nations and the global community.
A striking 94% of those surveyed expressed the belief that both sides need to seek win-win results by respecting each other’s concerns and approaching resolutions with equality. Furthermore, 95.7% emphasized that the United States should abide by the consensus reached during the Geneva talks and diligently implement the agreements made.
The health of China-U.S. relations carries significant weight on the global stage. With the international community facing continuous challenges, a stable relationship between the world’s two largest economies not only benefits both countries but also contributes positively to global stability.
An overwhelming 95.5% of respondents believe that the development of China-U.S. relations must be based on mutual respect and equality, taking into account each other’s core interests and major concerns. Nearly 97% agreed that the relationship is not a zero-sum game, and any attempt to transform or contain the other side is unrealistic. The progress of one should not impede the legitimate rights of the other.
Looking forward, 90.6% of participants expressed hope that China and the United States will continue to maintain open communication, reduce misunderstandings, and promote the stabilization of their relations. The global community appears eager for both nations to return to a path of healthy and stable development as soon as possible.
