Premier Li Development of China Canada is Opportunity Not Threat

Premier Li Urges Stronger China-Canada Ties for Mutual Growth

Chinese Premier Li Qiang emphasized on Friday that China’s development poses an opportunity, not a threat, to Canada, calling for stronger ties and mutual growth between the two nations.

“Our countries share a tradition of friendship and mutual benefit, without fundamental conflicts of interest,” Premier Li said during a phone call with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Li highlighted that Canada was among the first Western countries to establish diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China, fostering a longstanding partnership. He expressed hope that both sides would view each other’s development objectively and rationally, working together to promote prosperity and success.

“China is willing to collaborate with Canada to improve bilateral relations steadily, aiming for win-win cooperation,” Li stated. He urged both nations to deepen cooperation in traditional areas and expand into emerging fields such as clean energy, climate change, and technological innovation.

Premier Li called on both governments to listen to their people and enhance friendly cooperation to increase mutual understanding and trust. “By seeking common ground and addressing differences appropriately, we can strengthen exchanges and dialogue in various fields,” he said.

Li also remarked on the current international climate, noting rising unilateralism and protectionism. He affirmed China’s readiness to work with Canada to safeguard multilateralism and free trade, promote positive economic globalization, and contribute to global peace and development.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau reciprocated the sentiment, acknowledging the profound friendship between the two nations. “China is Canada’s second-largest trading partner. Despite recent setbacks, Canada is prepared to restart and strengthen our relationship with China,” Trudeau said.

Trudeau expressed Canada’s desire to resume high-level exchanges and dialogue in diplomacy, economy, trade, agriculture, energy, and environmental protection. He emphasized the importance of collaboration to promote global sustainable development.
