Chinese Vice President Han Zheng and French President Emmanuel Macron have pledged to strengthen bilateral ties and boost global cooperation. The two leaders met on Monday during the third United Nations Ocean Conference in Nice, France.
Han conveyed greetings from Chinese President Xi Jinping to Macron, emphasizing China’s commitment to enhancing strategic communication and coordination with France. “China is willing to inject new impetus into the development of China-France relations,” Han stated.
Last month, Presidents Xi and Macron held a phone call where they discussed deepening bilateral solidarity, upholding multilateralism, and promoting world peace and stability. Han highlighted that his attendance at the conference aimed to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state.
Han praised France for upholding strategic autonomy and expressed China’s support. He also noted that this year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the European Union. “Strengthening cooperation between China and the EU benefits both sides and the rest of the world,” Han remarked.
President Macron expressed his gratitude for Han’s participation in the conference and asked him to relay his greetings to President Xi. “France regards China as a long-term and reliable cooperation partner,” Macron said. He emphasized the importance of close high-level exchanges between the two nations amid current global challenges.
Macron welcomed Chinese companies to invest and conduct business in France. He voiced France’s willingness to deepen economic and trade cooperation, strengthen communication on international economic policies, and jointly tackle global issues such as climate change and biodiversity protection.
“Together, France and China can uphold multilateralism and act as constructive forces in this turbulent world, adding more certainty to the international community,” Macron added.
