China and African Ministers Forge Stronger Ties in Changsha

In a significant step towards enhanced cooperation, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with his African counterparts in Changsha, the capital of China’s Hunan Province. The meetings took place during the Ministerial Meeting of Coordinators on the Implementation of the Follow-up Actions of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

Ministers from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Niger, Guinea-Bissau, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, and Ethiopia engaged in discussions aimed at deepening mutual trust and collaboration.

Building Bridges with the Democratic Republic of the Congo

Wang Yi and Therese Kayikwamba Wagner of the Democratic Republic of the Congo emphasized transforming resource advantages into development opportunities. Wang Yi affirmed that China’s vast market is open to the DRC, highlighting the potential for mutual growth.

Strengthening Ties with Niger

In talks with Niger’s Bakary Yaou Sangare, Wang Yi expressed the importance of South-South cooperation and the desire to enhance traditional friendships. Sangare assured that Niger values its relationship with China and is committed to mutual respect and dialogue.

Unity with Guinea-Bissau

Meeting with Carlos Pinto Pereira of Guinea-Bissau, discussions focused on resisting unilateralism and protecting international fairness. Pereira thanked China for its longstanding support and expressed a desire to expand practical cooperation.

Advancing Partnership with Nigeria

Wang Yi and Nigeria’s Yusuf Maitama Tuggar highlighted the global significance of their relationship. Both parties showed enthusiasm for sharing development opportunities and deepening cooperation across various fields.

Collaborating with Burkina Faso

In dialogue with Karamoko Jean-Marie Traore of Burkina Faso, Wang Yi noted the positive impact since the resumption of diplomatic ties. China encouraged investment and emphasized the safety of Chinese enterprises. Traore expressed appreciation for China’s support and a commitment to sincere and friendly cooperation.

Solidarity with Ethiopia

Wang Yi and Ethiopia’s Gedion Timothewos reviewed the fruitful outcomes of their cooperation. They agreed to strengthen strategic communication, promote mutual development, and safeguard shared interests through solidarity.

The meetings in Changsha underscore a shared vision for a brighter future, reinforcing bonds between China and African nations. The collaborative efforts aim to bring tangible benefits to people across the Global South.
