China is urging the United States to honor their recent agreements and work together to reduce misunderstandings through open dialogue. Speaking at a regular press briefing on Thursday, a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry emphasized the importance of implementing the consensus reached during a recent phone call between the two heads of state.
"The two sides have made new progress in resolving each other’s economic and trade concerns," the spokesperson said, referring to the China-U.S. economic and trade consultation mechanism meeting that concluded in London. They highlighted that the meeting was held under the strategic guidance of the two leaders and that both sides reached a consensus in principle.
The spokesperson stressed the need for both countries to abide by the agreements and to fully utilize the consultation mechanism to strengthen cooperation. "Now that a consensus has been reached, both sides should abide by it," they stated.
Calling for enhanced communication and dialogue, the spokesperson emphasized that strengthened cooperation would help reduce misunderstandings between the two nations. This comes after both sides consolidated the outcomes of previous economic and trade talks in Geneva, aiming to build on the progress made.
