China has called on the United States to respect World Trade Organization (WTO) rules and avoid imposing unilateral tariffs. He Yadong, spokesperson for the Chinese Commerce Ministry, emphasized the need for cooperation during a press briefing on Thursday.
Responding to questions about recent remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump on trade deals, He Yadong stated that the Chinese mainland opposes any unilateral imposition of tariffs. He urged the U.S. to work with China based on principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation.
“We hope the United States will abide by WTO provisions and collaborate with us to promote the stable and sustainable development of bilateral economic and trade ties,” he added.
The call for cooperation comes amid ongoing trade tensions between the two largest economies in the world. Both sides have expressed interest in finding common ground to support global economic stability.
