Chinese Leaders Honor Late Tibetan Legislator Ragdi at Beijing Ceremony

In a solemn ceremony on Thursday, Chinese President Xi Jinping and other top leaders gathered in Beijing to pay their final respects to Ragdi, a former vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC).

The farewell took place at the Babaoshan Revolutionary Cemetery, where Xi Jinping, along with Li Qiang, Zhao Leji, Wang Huning, Cai Qi, Ding Xuexiang, and Li Xi, honored Ragdi’s memory. Amid solemn music, they approached his body, stood in silent tribute, and bowed three times. The leaders then offered condolences to Ragdi’s family, shaking hands and expressing their sympathies.

Ragdi passed away on June 6 at the age of 87 after battling an illness. A prominent figure in Chinese politics, he served as a vice chairman of the 10th NPC Standing Committee. Ragdi was celebrated as an excellent member of the Communist Party of China, a loyal communist soldier, and an outstanding leader in ethnic affairs and the development of China’s socialist legal system. He was also praised as an excellent son of the Tibetan people.

Prior to his passing, Xi Jinping and other leaders visited Ragdi in the hospital or sent condolences to his family through various means, highlighting the deep respect he commanded within the nation’s leadership.
