Chinese President Xi Jinping will attend the second China-Central Asia Summit in Astana, Kazakhstan, from June 16 to 18, at the invitation of Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, announced Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian on Friday.
The China-Central Asia mechanism, established by China and the five Central Asian countries, aims to promote regional stability and high-quality development, according to Lin. Since the first summit held in Xi’an in May 2023, relations have entered a new era, with deeper cooperation benefiting people across the region.
This will be the first time the summit is held in a Central Asian country. President Xi is expected to deliver a keynote speech and discuss achievements of the China-Central Asia mechanism, mutually beneficial cooperation, and international and regional issues with other leaders. The leaders will also participate in related activities.
During the summit, President Xi will hold separate meetings with the leaders of Central Asian countries to further enhance bilateral relations.
“We believe that through the summit, China and the five Central Asian countries will further consolidate mutual trust, build consensus on cooperation, deepen strategic synergy, promote cooperation in various fields, and contribute positively to building a closer China-Central Asia community with a shared future,” Lin said.
