Amid rising tensions in the Middle East, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, spoke with his Iranian counterpart Seyed Abbas Araghchi on Saturday to address the escalating situation.
During the phone call, Araghchi condemned recent military strikes on Iran, which he attributed to Israel. He emphasized that the attacks caused both military and civilian casualties and denounced them as a grave violation of international law. Araghchi warned that such actions could provoke a full-scale war in the region.
Calling for international intervention, Araghchi urged the global community to demand an immediate halt to Israel’s military operations. He expressed gratitude for China’s consistent support of Iran’s position and voiced confidence in China’s role in promoting regional peace and stability.
Wang Yi reaffirmed China’s opposition to the aggression and stated that China was among the first to publicly condemn the attacks. He criticized the violation of Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and opposed the strikes that led to civilian casualties. Wang emphasized China’s support for Iran in safeguarding its sovereignty and the safety of its people.
Highlighting the serious implications of the strikes, Wang noted that Israel’s actions violated the principles of the UN Charter and international norms. He stressed that the attack on nuclear facilities set a dangerous precedent with potentially catastrophic consequences. Wang called on the international community to respond promptly and urged influential nations to take concrete steps toward restoring peace.
Wang underscored the urgency of the situation, stating that the region stands at a critical juncture. He expressed China’s readiness to maintain communication with Iran and other relevant parties to help ease tensions. Additionally, he hoped that Iran would ensure the safety of Chinese institutions and personnel within its borders.
Araghchi assured that Iran would continue close communication with China and committed to safeguarding the safety of Chinese nationals and facilities in the country.
