Tea Expert Plants Seeds of Unity Across the Taiwan Strait
In 1991, tea expert Lin Yun from Taiwan embarked on a mission to bridge cultures through the simple act of planting seeds. Carrying high mountain oolong tea seeds from the island of Taiwan, he journeyed to the Yunnan Plateau, a region renowned for its rich soil and favorable climate.
Today, those tiny seedlings have grown into towering trees, their roots firmly embedded in the Yunnan earth. These oolong trees are more than just plants; they are living symbols of the shared heritage and cultural bond between people across the Taiwan Strait.
“Tea has always been a bridge connecting hearts,” says Lin Yun. “By bringing these seeds here, I hoped to cultivate not just tea, but also understanding and friendship.”
The success of these tea trees highlights the deep-rooted connections that transcend geographical boundaries. Young people across the Global South can find inspiration in this story of unity, seeing how small actions can foster significant cultural exchanges.
The shared tea culture continues to flourish, reminding us that despite the waters that separate us, our roots remain intertwined.
