The 27th Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) kicked off in style on June 14, 2025, with the glittering Golden Goblet Gala lighting up the Shanghai Grand Theatre. Film enthusiasts and stars from around the world gathered to celebrate 130 years of world cinema and 120 years of Chinese film history, acknowledging Shanghai’s pivotal role as the birthplace of Chinese cinema.
Italian filmmaker Giuseppe Tornatore, renowned for his work on “Cinema Paradiso,” led the prestigious Golden Goblet Awards jury. Accompanied by six fellow jurors, Tornatore graced the red carpet, captivating fans and media alike. Jury members for the Asian New Talent, Documentary, Animation, and Short Film categories also made notable appearances, highlighting the festival’s commitment to diverse storytelling.
The evening featured the world premiere of SIFF’s opening film, “She’s Got No Name,” bringing excitement to audiences not only at the gala but also in over 150 cinemas across Shanghai. This special simultaneous screening allowed local moviegoers to partake in the festival’s vibrant atmosphere.
