Shenzhen Chengdu Among Model Cities of Beautiful Consumption Survey

Shenzhen and Chengdu Named as China’s Top Cities for Vibrant Consumption

Shenzhen and Chengdu have been spotlighted as China’s model cities for vibrant consumption, according to the latest “China Beautiful Life Survey” released on Sunday in Hefei, Anhui Province. This annual survey highlights cities with high levels of consumer vitality, and this year, Wuhan and Dalian also made the list.

The survey emphasized that boosting consumption is a top priority for China in 2025, as outlined in the Government Work Report during the Two Sessions. Expanding domestic demand has become crucial, with efforts to invigorate consumer spending and enhance investment efficiency.

Tourism emerged as the leading choice for increased spending, with over a third of respondents planning to travel more in 2025. Health and wellness products, along with digital gadgets like computers and smartphones, ranked second and third. Entertainment options such as concerts, music festivals, and sports events have become popular, driving cross-city spending among young people.

Both service-oriented and goods-oriented consumption are on the rise, reflecting a diverse and growing consumer market in China. The findings show a shift towards experiences and technology in consumer preferences.

The “China Beautiful Life Survey” was initiated in 2006 by China Media Group, the National Bureau of Statistics, China Post Group Corporation, and the National School of Development at Peking University. Over the past 19 years, it has become a significant barometer of consumer trends and urban development in the country.
