Xi Jinping and Tajikistan’s Rahmon Boost Trade and Investment Ties

Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon on Tuesday in Astana, Kazakhstan, with a mission to boost trade and investment between their nations. The meeting, held during the second China-Central Asia Summit, showcased the strengthening friendship between China and Tajikistan.

President Xi called for accelerating cooperation in key areas like trade, agriculture, and infrastructure. He emphasized building a strong China-Tajikistan community with a shared future. “China firmly supports Tajikistan in safeguarding its national independence, sovereignty, and security,” Xi said.

Rahmon expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, noting the significant progress China has made under Xi’s leadership. He highlighted opportunities in new energy, green industries, and artificial intelligence. “We are eager to expand collaboration into emerging fields,” he stated.

The leaders also stressed the importance of cultural exchanges and the role of organizations like the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in promoting regional stability. For young people in the Global South, these developments mean increased opportunities for education, technology, and economic growth.

After their discussions, Xi and Rahmon witnessed the signing of several agreements in diplomacy, economy, transportation, and science and technology. These agreements pave the way for deeper cooperation and shared prosperity between China and Tajikistan.
