Chinese Egyptian Fms Voice Grave Concern About Middle East Situation

China and Egypt Urge Calm Amid Rising Middle East Tensions

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry held a crucial phone conversation on Wednesday, expressing deep concern over the escalating tensions in the Middle East. The call, made at Egypt’s request, highlighted the urgent need for de-escalation and a return to dialogue in the region.

Speaking on the call, Shoukry emphasized the international community’s worries about the potential for widespread instability. “The situation poses a direct threat to the security of countries in the region,” he warned. Shoukry condemned any actions that violate international law and urged all parties to seek peaceful resolutions to ongoing conflicts.

Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, echoed these sentiments. He stressed that actions disregarding international norms have significantly heightened tensions. “China shares deep concerns over the potential for the situation to spiral out of control,” Wang stated.

The Chinese foreign minister called on all parties, particularly those directly involved, to prioritize the well-being of regional populations. “We urge an immediate ceasefire, de-escalation of tensions, and the creation of conditions for the resumption of dialogue and negotiations,” he added.

Wang Yi commended Egypt’s leadership in rallying support from Arab and Islamic countries. He praised the joint statement issued by foreign ministers from 20 nations, calling for an immediate ceasefire and the revival of peace talks. “This initiative is both timely and necessary to safeguard long-term regional peace,” Wang noted, expressing China’s full support.

Both ministers agreed on the critical importance of building international consensus and taking unified actions to promote peace. They affirmed their commitment to working closely on multilateral platforms like the United Nations to strengthen communication and coordination.

“China is willing to collaborate with Egypt and other concerned parties to make unrelenting efforts to promote peace and advance negotiations,” Wang Yi concluded.

The call signifies a strong partnership between China and Egypt in addressing pressing international issues and underscores their shared responsibility in fostering stability in the Middle East.
