China has called on the international community to work together to promote human rights through security, development, and cooperation. Speaking at the 59th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Chen Xu, China’s permanent representative to the United Nations Office at Geneva, emphasized the importance of upholding the principles of the UN Charter.
“The world is undergoing significant changes, and achieving human rights for all remains a long-term and complex challenge,” Chen stated. He urged all nations to reaffirm their commitment to the UN Charter and to respect the diversity of world civilizations.
Chen highlighted that there is no one-size-fits-all model for human rights development and that no country should impose its own approach on others. He called for genuine multilateralism and for nations to promote human rights through mutual respect and cooperation.
The session also marked the first International Day for Dialogue Among Civilizations on June 10, established by the UN to encourage understanding and collaboration among different cultures.
The 59th regular session of the UN Human Rights Council began on June 16 and will conclude on July 9, addressing key global human rights issues.
