Xinjiang Girls Aspire to Join Chinese National Football Team

Football fever is sweeping through northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and it’s not just the boys who are catching the wave. In a region where football has been on the rise for over two decades, young girls are lacing up their boots, dreaming big, and aiming high.

Among the budding talents are under-15 players Munawar Aihemayti, Kadirya Sulayman, and Subinur Aziz. These girls from Bachu County No. 3 Middle School and Jiashi County No. 4 Middle School in Kashgar Prefecture recently shared their aspirations with Shen Xiang of CGTN Sports Scene.

“I fell in love with football when I was just a child,” said Munawar, her eyes gleaming with passion. “My dream is to join the national team and represent my country at the highest level.”

Kadirya and Subinur echoed her sentiments, each expressing a burning desire to don the national colors. “Football is more than a sport to me; it’s my life’s goal,” said Kadirya. “I want to show that girls from Xinjiang can achieve anything.”

Their inspiration comes from local football heroes like Behram Abduweli, Imran Memet, and Hebibilla Nurhaji, who have been recruited by Chinese national teams at various levels. Their success stories have ignited a spark among young athletes in Xinjiang, motivating them to pursue their dreams relentlessly.

The rise of football in Xinjiang has been remarkable, with dedicated training programs and increased support for youth development. Coaches and teachers are nurturing talents, providing opportunities for young athletes to shine on bigger stages.

As these girls continue to hone their skills, they embody the spirit of determination and hope. They are not just playing for themselves but paving the way for future generations of female footballers in the region.

“One day, we will stand on the field, wearing the national team jersey,” said Subinur confidently. “We will make our families and our country proud.”

With their unwavering dedication, it’s only a matter of time before these young stars from Xinjiang make their mark on the national and international football scene.
