Amid rising tensions in the Middle East, China has called on the international community to foster conditions for a ceasefire and a return to dialogue. The appeal was made by Guo Jiakun, spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, during a regular press briefing on Thursday.
“The Middle East is currently in a tense and fragile state, facing a risk of spiraling beyond control,” Guo stated. He emphasized the need for influential nations to take responsible actions to prevent further escalation.
The spokesperson’s remarks came in response to reports of the United States preparing for a possible strike on Iran in the coming days. While not directly addressing the U.S., Guo highlighted China’s opposition to any actions that violate the principles of the United Nations Charter.
“China opposes any act that infringes upon the sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity of other countries,” he said. “We oppose the use or threat of use of force in international relations.”
Guo urged the international community, especially major countries with influence, to maintain an impartial stance and adopt a responsible attitude. “Efforts should be made to prevent regional tensions from escalating,” he added.
The situation in the Middle East has been increasingly volatile, raising concerns about the potential for widespread conflict. China’s call for dialogue and negotiation reflects its commitment to promoting peace and stability in the region.
