President Xi Calls for Immediate Ceasefire in Middle East Conflict

BEIJING, China—Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for an immediate ceasefire in the Middle East, emphasizing that the use of force is not the solution to international disputes.

In a phone conversation on Thursday with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Xi urged all conflicting parties—particularly Israel—to halt hostilities as soon as possible. He expressed deep concern over the critical situation, warning that further escalation would lead to greater losses for both the parties involved and the region.

“Protecting civilians’ safety must remain the top priority,” Xi stressed, highlighting the importance of adhering to international law and avoiding harm to innocent people amidst rising tensions. He underscored dialogue and negotiation as the fundamental pathways to resolving conflicts, advocating for a return to political solutions through diplomatic means.

President Xi also called upon the international community, especially influential nations, to play active roles in de-escalating the situation. He emphasized that the United Nations Security Council should assume greater responsibility in promoting peace efforts.

“China stands ready to strengthen communication and coordination with all parties,” Xi said, pledging to uphold justice and contribute constructively to restoring peace in the Middle East.

Russian President Putin echoed Xi’s sentiments, describing any attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities as dangerous. He asserted that escalating the conflict serves no one’s interests and emphasized the need for resolution through dialogue and consultation.

“Russia is willing to maintain close communication with China,” Putin noted, expressing a commitment to collaborating in efforts to cool down tensions and maintain regional stability.

The two leaders praised the strong political mutual trust and high-level strategic cooperation between China and Russia. They agreed to continue close high-level exchanges, advance collaboration across various fields, and further develop their comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination.
