In a coordinated effort, 119 Chinese citizens have been safely evacuated from Israel to Egypt amid escalating tensions in the region. The evacuees, including 117 students and two residents from Hong Kong, crossed into Egypt via the Taba border crossing in South Sinai Province on Thursday afternoon.
The group entered Egypt around 3:30 p.m. local time after completing necessary procedures and were then transported to Cairo. The evacuation was organized by the Chinese Embassy in Egypt, which worked closely with Egyptian authorities to ensure a smooth and secure passage.
“China is highly concerned about our compatriots overseas. Their well-being and safety are always our priority,” said Liao Liqiang, the Chinese ambassador to Egypt. “We completed all preparatory work efficiently within 24 hours and dispatched an action group to Taba overnight to organize the process of entry.”
Liao emphasized the embassy’s cooperation with Egyptian departments to obtain passage permits, assistance, and security guarantees for the evacuees.
Sun Xue, a postdoctoral fellow at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, was among those evacuated. “The journey from Jerusalem to the Taba border crossing took about four hours,” Sun said. “During the entry process, staff and volunteers from the Chinese Embassy in Egypt provided warm assistance and coordination. We are truly grateful to them.”
The evacuation comes as part of efforts to ensure the safety of Chinese nationals amid the ongoing conflict in the region. The Chinese government continues to monitor the situation closely and stands ready to assist its citizens abroad.
