China has issued a strong warning to the Philippines over what it describes as illegal activities in the South China Sea. The China Coast Guard (CCG) spokesperson, Liu Dejun, stated on Thursday that recent operations by Philippine vessels near Banyue Jiao and Jianzhang Jiao of the Nansha Islands violated China’s territorial sovereignty.
“The Philippine vessels have repeatedly engaged in illegal infringement and provocations under the pretext of ‘fishery protection,’ undermining peace and stability in the South China Sea,” Liu said.
From Sunday to Wednesday, multiple Philippine ships were dispatched to carry out what China considers unauthorized operations in the area. In response, the CCG took necessary measures in accordance with the law and professional code of conduct, according to Liu.
Liu emphasized China’s “indisputable sovereignty over the Nansha Islands, including Banyue Jiao and Jianzhang Jiao, as well as their adjacent waters.” He stated that any attempts to infringe upon China’s territorial integrity are futile.
The CCG confirmed it will continue regular law enforcement patrols in waters under China’s jurisdiction to safeguard national sovereignty and maritime rights.
