More than 740 Chinese nationals have safely evacuated from Iran to Azerbaijan via the Astara border crossing, according to the Chinese Embassy in Azerbaijan. By midday Friday, buses transported the evacuees from the border to hotels in Baku, while some immediately booked flights back to China.
The embassy announced on Tuesday that it had officially launched efforts to assist Chinese nationals entering Azerbaijan from Iran or transiting through Azerbaijan to return home. With the support of an association of overseas Chinese living in Azerbaijan, the evacuation process has been smooth and efficient.
The embassy noted that more Chinese citizens continue to arrive at the Astara border crossing from Iran. An on-site task force remains active to provide them with all necessary assistance.
