World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Vice President Yang Yang has openly criticized the controversial Enhanced Games, highlighting potential health risks for athletes and the threat to the integrity of the Olympic Movement.
In an interview with CGTN Sports Scene’s Greg Laffradi, Yang Yang expressed grave concerns over the organizers’ plan to permit athletes to use performance-enhancing drugs. She emphasized that allowing such substances could lead to serious health consequences, citing multiple instances where athletes have died due to doping.
“We have seen too many tragedies resulting from the misuse of performance-enhancing drugs,” Yang Yang stated. “It’s not just about gaining an unfair advantage; it’s about the safety and well-being of the athletes.”
Yang Yang, China’s first Winter Olympics gold medalist, stressed the importance of upholding the values of clean sport. She supported other organizations in condemning the Enhanced Games, underscoring the need to send the right message to both current athletes and the younger generation.
“We must protect the spirit of fair competition,” she added. “Allowing doping undermines the hard work and dedication of clean athletes and sets a dangerous precedent for future sports enthusiasts.”
