At the 28th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang called for global unity and the promotion of a multipolar world that benefits all nations.
In his speech titled “Championing Humanity’s Common Values and Promoting a Multipolar World“, Ding emphasized the importance of peace, development, equity, justice, democracy, and freedom as universal values shared by all of humanity.
He urged countries to work together to address common challenges, highlighting that the world is facing unprecedented changes and intertwined risks.
Ding presented a four-point proposal to guide global cooperation:
- Global Governance Through Collaboration: He advocated for extensive consultation, joint contribution, and shared benefits in global governance, promoting equal rights and opportunities for all nations while safeguarding the authority of the United Nations.
- Building an Open World Economy: Ding called for efforts to protect the multilateral trading system, create a fair international economic order, and provide more opportunities for countries in the Global South.
- Cultural Exchange and Mutual Learning: He encouraged respect for the diversity of human civilizations and opposed any form of ideological confrontation or a “new Cold War”.
- Safeguarding Peace and Development: Ding emphasized the importance of building trust, resolving conflicts, and enhancing security through dialogue to ensure lasting stability and prosperity for future generations.
Highlighting the strong relationship between the Chinese mainland and Russia, Ding noted that both countries are “true friends” and “good partners”. He mentioned that President Xi Jinping’s recent state visit to Russia strengthened political mutual trust and strategic coordination between the two nations.
Ding expressed China’s willingness to work with Russia to elevate their relationship, expand high-quality cooperation, and make greater contributions to building a more just, equitable, and prosperous multipolar world.
Despite external challenges, Ding stated that China’s economy continues to show positive trends, demonstrating resilience and vitality. He assured that China’s door to opening up will only widen, inviting enterprises from all over the world to invest and participate in China’s modernization process.
On the sidelines of the forum, Ding met with officials including Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak, Rosneft CEO Igor Sechin, and Gazprom CEO Alexey Miller. The discussions focused on enhancing investment and energy cooperation to boost bilateral relations.
Ding also held brief conversations with leaders from Indonesia, Bahrain, and South Africa, underscoring China’s commitment to strengthening ties with countries across the Global South.
