The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government hosted a significant forum on Saturday to mark the fifth anniversary of the national security law’s implementation in the HKSAR.
Xia Baolong, head of the Hong Kong and Macao Work Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, addressed the gathering. He emphasized that since the national security law came into effect on June 30, 2020, Hong Kong has moved from chaos to stability, embracing a new chapter under the “One Country, Two Systems” principle.
“The national security law in the HKSAR has safeguarded national sovereignty, security, and development interests, maintained stability and prosperity in Hong Kong, and protected the interests of Hong Kong residents and foreign investors,” Xia stated.
He called for continued dedication to fully and faithfully implementing the “One Country, Two Systems” framework, aiming to create a secure environment for Hong Kong’s future growth.
HKSAR Chief Executive John Lee highlighted that with the support of the national security law and the Safeguarding National Security Ordinance, Hong Kong is poised to advance its development and reforms. “We can contribute more to building a strong country and advancing national rejuvenation,” Lee said.
The event brought together about 2,000 participants from various communities across Hong Kong, reflecting the city’s commitment to unity and progress.
