China has strongly condemned the United States’ recent attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities, which are under the safeguards of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). A spokesperson for the Chinese foreign ministry expressed deep concern on Sunday over the escalating tensions in the Middle East.
The spokesperson was responding to U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement that the United States carried out strikes on three nuclear facilities in Iran. “U.S. actions seriously violate the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and international law, exacerbating tensions in the Middle East,” the spokesperson said.
China called on all parties involved in the conflict, particularly Israel, to reach a ceasefire promptly, ensure the safety of civilians, and engage in dialogue and negotiations to resolve the crisis. “China stands ready to work with the international community to pool efforts, uphold justice, and work towards restoring peace and stability in the Middle East,” the spokesperson added.
The strikes have raised international alarm, with many countries urging restraint to prevent further escalation. Observers fear that the conflict could spiral into a larger regional confrontation, impacting global security and the economy.
