China’s Wang Yi Pledges Stronger Ties with UK, Calls for Peaceful Resolution in Middle East

China is ready to collaborate with Britain to enhance exchanges across various sectors, deepen mutual understanding, and promote the healthy and stable development of China-Britain relations, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi announced on Monday.

During a meeting in Beijing with former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, emphasized the importance of implementing the consensus reached by the leaders of both countries.

“As permanent members of the UN Security Council and major countries in the world, China and Britain must fulfill their international obligations, demonstrate responsibility and commitment, and contribute to global peace and development,” Wang stated.

He highlighted that last year’s interactions between the leaders of the two countries have steered bilateral relations onto a path of improvement and development. “China welcomes Britain’s commitment to a consistent, long-term China policy grounded in mutual respect,” Wang added.

Blair echoed these sentiments, underscoring that attempts to isolate China are destined to fail. “The world needs greater understanding of China,” he said, advocating for strengthened dialogue at government levels and across social sectors. Blair called for extensive, mutually beneficial cooperation to achieve sustained and sound bilateral development.

Calls for Peace in the Middle East

Addressing the Israel-Iran conflict, Wang Yi urged for differences between countries to be resolved peacefully through dialogue and consultation. He expressed concern over recent escalations, noting that actions advocating force over dialogue set a dangerous precedent with significant consequences.

“All parties to the conflict are urged to take measures to de-escalate tensions and return to negotiations for a political settlement to restore peace and stability in the Middle East,” Wang emphasized.

Blair shared his deep concern regarding the conflict, calling for diplomatic engagement through dialogue to swiftly return to negotiations. “It’s imperative to achieve a prompt recovery of regional peace, security, and stability,” he asserted.
